Arguineguin Reef, our house reef (Boat dive)

The reef is right in front of our Scuba Diving Centre just a short boat ride out. The reef starts at a depth of 12m and continues down to 16m. You will always find shoals of Barracuda, Reef fish, octopus and cuttlefish.

Amadores (Shore dive)

Amadores Beach is a man made white sand beach, all of which has been imported from the Sahara making it look truly beautiful. To stop the sand from being washed back into the sea, a break water has been built across the bay and on which there is a variety of marine life. The maximum depth is 15m and you will find octopus, squid, cuttlefish, reef fish, barracudas and also Rays on the sandy bottom behind the break water.

Artificial Reef (Boat dive)

Artificial reef is a man made reef constructed by the university of Las Palmas. It is made up of a large number of different shaped concrete blocks which have been set out on the sea bed. The maximum depth is 23m and although this is a man made reef there's a vast number of marine life living on it, including morays eels amongst the blocks, large numbers of Reef fish and all types of Rays. Also in the winter months this is the best place to see Angel Sharks buried in the sand.

The Blue Bird (Boat dive)

This is a ferry which was sunk in an area near Mogan. She lies broken up in a depth of 47m on a sandy bottom. There are no reefs near by so all the marine life congregates around this out crop on an otherwise sandy bottom. The Blue bird is only 30 meters in length, but due to the depth this is never a problem , There are always large schools of Roncadors, Barracudas, Rays and Amberjacks, Angel Sharks, Rays and is must for experienced divers.

Please note: Only experienced divers (minimum advanced with 150dives) can make this dive. Log books will be inspected prior to allowing you to dive.

Caleta (shore dive)

This is one for the Scuba Divers who love Manta Rays (Manta Mobula). It is a very tricky entry/ exit but once you are in the water is very easy. Between the months of September through November you can sit on the sandy bottom and watch as shoals of Mantas fly over the top of you. If you stay still and do not make any sudden movements, then they will come very close in to the divers.

There is also a very good reef/ cave dive here as well which is a must for photographers. With large shoals of reef fish and sighting of Greater Amber Jacks.

El Goro (shore dive)

This is an area of amazing beauty. A place where you can still see all of the layers of laver, from when the volcano was active and the laver flows were running into the sea. With caves and caverns all around, there’s always Rays to be found. A very easy dive for the whole family with lots to see.

El Pajar Wreck (Boat dive)

This is the wreck of a Russian hydrofoil ferry which sank in 2003. She sits upright at a depth of 18m and is a length of 30m. The wreck can be penetrated in a number of places including through the large panoramic windows. The interior is still intact and you can see the seating, toilet area, bridge and engine room. Without fail you will see large shoals of fish and a large number of big Sting Rays under the hull of the ship.

Mogán Wrecks (Boat dive)

There are two wrecks sunk at Mogán, they were both sunk for the Submarine tours which leave from Mogán Harbour. The old wreck is now broken up, but the new one is a large fishing vessel and they are both at a depth of 19m. They are covered in marine life as the Submarine tour feeds the fish over the wrecks to attract them for the tourists. The marine life has everything possible in large numbers and we try to time the dive so that the Submarine is there at the same time. How cools that!!!

Mogán Caves (Boat dive)

There are two caves which are really one, but with two openings with a maximum depth of 21m but the openings are at 15m. Theres lots of marine life to be seen hiding in the darkness.

Pasito Blanco (Boat dive)

Pasito Blanco reef starts at 16m and slopes away to 23m. There's always large shoals of Yellow Gunter's, Reef fish, Stingrays, Moray Eels and Barracudas circling over head. Rays are often also found whilst you are scuba diving on this reef.

Las Palmas Wrecks (Boat dive)

Las Palmas is the second largest port in Europe and has the ship wrecks to prove it. Countless number of ships have sunk or been sunk outside the harbour over the last few hundred years. These wrecks are for the more experienced diver as the maximum depth is 40m and our guides can tell you the history of the ships then guide you safely round them. They include the Calais and Arona, both of which are large cargo ships.

Las Palmas, The Cathedral (Boat dive)

This is also a dive for the more experienced Scuba Diver as the maximum depth is 42m. There are a number of very large arches joining together in the middle, which create a Cathedral with shafts of sun light shinning through all the arches. A truly amazing sight!! There are also many caves which twist around the arches which gives you plenty of opportunities to explore.

Sardina de Norte (Shore dive)

This is one of the most best kept secrets of Gran Canaria. Maximum depth of 18m. It was once a busy fishing harbour, but now with the fisher men using other harbour, has been left a shelter for all the marine life from Butterfly Rays, Angel Sharks, Electric Rays, Barracuda, and the massive number of reef fish. As it is also the closest point to Tenerife and there are always large pelagic species passing through the gap between the islands.

El Carbon Marine Reserve (Shore dives)

El Carbon is one of only three marine reserves in The Canary Islands. It was classed as a site of special scientific interest by the European Union on the 28th December 2001. There are no boats or fishing aloud and beneath the waves the water is crystal clear with Gulf Stream temperatures that mean an abundant amount of marine life.

Just a few of the dive sites in the reserve are (all shore dives)

The Aquarium

The dive starts in the bay at Arinaga and is a maximum depth of 15m ( ideal for those less experienced or a second dive of the day). Due to the large number of Atlantic and Blue Fin Damsel Fish, Parrot fish, Wrasse, Lizard fish and Cuttlefish swimming all around you, its said to be like swimming in an aquarium. There are also lots of Razor fish, juvenile Barracudas, Trumpet fish, common Sting Rays, Octopus and many more.

The Arch

This is one of the best dives in the reserve, but can only be done if the conditions are good. The dive starts at 3m then drops off to a max depth of 25m. As you swim through a valley in the reef down to the Arch you can look up through a hole in the roof where you will often see Trumpet fish basking in the sun shine. Then you continue round to Roncadores where you'll find large shoals of Bastard Grunts, Bream, Barracudas and the friendly Sea Bream.

Hole in the Wall

This is a great dive which starts of with a reef on your left hand side which comes up from the sandy bottom by 2 m. The maximum depth is 24m Then there is a hole in the wall which you can swim through taking you to the other side of the main reef. This hole is like a magic door, as once you are through it, you will be amazed at the number of fish above you. Then we take you into cave which has a chimney up through the main reef allowing natural light to fill the inside of the cave. Always to be found are to large common rays, which have made the caves their home.

Roncadores

This is a long dive to the other side of the main reef. The maximum depth is 24m and you need to be good on air to make it there and back. When you drop down to the sandy bottom, you are completely encircled in a massive shoal of fish, including Roncadores, Barracudas, Bream, and many other. There are also a large number of Morays living in this area.

The Gorgonians

This is a deep, long dive for the experienced diver. It's a roller coaster ride drop down to 30m where there are Gorgonians of up to 2m wide. Also common to this area are Marbled Electric Ray's which will make your hair stand on end. Other marine life includes Gilt Head Bream and in the winter months Angel Sharks.

These are to name but a few of the great sites El Carbon has to offer.

For Scuba Divers of all levels there are dives for everyone. If you want to make a specific dive, then please ask and we will do anything we can do give you the dive you want!!
